Coaching Athletes to Play at the Next Level

The Men's Varsity A Basketball Program is recognized as one of the premier prep school programs in the country. It is an elite team that attracts top student-athletes from all over the country and world. The program aims to develop players and mold them into a tight, cohesive unit. This will prepare them to excel early in their careers at the collegiate level.

Coach Gale emphasizes skill development and playing the "right way." Players are given opportunities to showcase their skills to college coaches, and with the help of the coaching staff, find the appropriate college destination. The Varsity A team also strives to teach student athletes how to be exemplary students and productive members of the New Hampton community.

Andrew Gale

Bio
Head Coach

Andrew Gale comes from the University of Vermont where he worked for four years as the lead student manager and as the Graduate Assistant Coach for the Men’s Basketball Team. During his time at UVM, the Catamounts won an America East Championship, had the longest winning streak in the country during the 2016-2017 Season, went undefeated in the America East Conference, and earned four post season bids: one to the NCAA Tournament, one to the NIT and two to the CBI. While completing his graduate work, he served as an Academic Advisor by helping players manage their coursework while competing at the Division I level.

Andrew was named Head Coach of the Men’s Varsity A team in May 2019 after 2 seasons as Assistant Coach. During his first year in March 2020, his team beat Brewster Academy in the NEPSAC AAA finals for the schools’ first Championship since 2003. Alex Karaban was named player of the game and has since gone on to win the 2023 NCAA Championship with UCONN.

In March 2023, New Hampton was invited to participate in the National Prep Championship Tournament in Worcester, MA. Coach Gale strives to develop his team to play at their highest level with respect and integrity on and off the court.

Andrew was born and raised in Williston, Vermont. He is a graduate of the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Business Administration and a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Andrew is a member of the Admissions Department. He spends his summers golfing and on Lake Champlain in Vermont with his family and friends.

John Scheinman

Special Assistant to the Head Coach

John Scheinman brings over 45 years of basketball experience, as a Manager at Marist College, an assistant coach at Keene State College, Farleigh Dickinson University, and Head Coach at Saint Joseph's College, New England College and Plymouth State University. John also is a color analyst for various media platforms including, ESPN+, NBS Sports Boston, NBA TV, & ACC Network.
