New Hampton Falls Short to Dexter

The team traveled to Haverhill, MA to take on #9 NEPSAC-ranked Dexter Southfield. After a week of preseason training in Clearwater, Florida, the Huskies felt prepared to face the challenge.
New Hampton battled hard in the opening quarter, competing on the draw and trailing by just one goal, 4–3, heading into the second. Dexter Southfield pulled away in the second quarter, scoring seven goals to take an 11–5 lead into halftime.

After making halftime adjustments, the Huskies came out strong, scoring three quick goals to close the gap. However, they still trailed 16–8 heading into the final quarter. New Hampton refused to back down, holding Southfield scoreless in the fourth while adding two goals to narrow the deficit.

The young defensive unit made key adjustments and generated momentum-shifting caused turnovers. Former midfielder Fionna McNamara stepped up on the defensive end, finishing with two caused turnovers. Midfielder Madi Hannon ’26 was locked in across the field, contributing in all phases of play. Kristen Vinagro ’27 also made a strong impact in the fourth quarter, coming up with two crucial plays to help transition the ball into the offensive end. Audra Custance ’27 cleaned up loose balls, collecting two ground balls and making great slides to slow down a powerful Dexter attack.

Despite the late push, New Hampton fell short with a final score of 16–10. In their first game of the season, the Huskies showed resilience and composure, even while facing adversity.

Fia Swormstedt ’27 led the team with seven goals and three assists, while also collecting seven ground balls and making an impact across the midfield. Tova Yerardi ’26 added three goals and one assist. While the stat sheet highlights these performances, the entire offensive unit worked cohesively with strong off-ball movement, creating quality scoring opportunities throughout the game.

New Hampton will travel north for a back-to-back weekend, finishing with a matchup against Phillips Academy.
