After a few days off for the long weekend, the Huskies returned to the field recharged and ready for a competitive matchup against Dexter. From the first whistle, it was clear Dexter was a strong and skilled team. They were quick, composed, and relentless in their press. The Huskies quickly adjusted, matching Dexter’s intensity and pace. The game went back and forth with full out hustle from both sides, and the Huskies’ determination shone through as they refused to let Dexter’s strong push knock them off their game.
Five minutes into the first quarter, the Huskies earned a corner. Although it did not play out exactly as drawn up, they fought hard to keep possession. Eventually, a pass from Cara to Emma found the back of the net, putting the Huskies up 1-0 early. The goal gave the team great momentum, and while neither side dominated, the Huskies continued to connect and create smart scoring opportunities.
The second quarter followed the same high energy pattern, with both teams battling hard. Midway through the quarter, the Huskies capitalized on a 2v3 moment when Lanah made an impressive run, beating defenders and sending a beautiful ball across the circle to Lily, who finished with a clean touch to put the Huskies ahead 2-0. It was a great way to close out the first half.
At halftime, the team focused on maintaining strong communication, doubling a particularly fast Dexter player, clearing the ball wide, staying patient, and making sure not to grow complacent with a two goal lead against such a tough opponent.
The third quarter tested the Huskies’ defensive grit, especially on corners, but they held strong, stepping hard to the ball and clearing wide. With just 15.4 seconds left in the quarter, Dexter converted a corner to narrow the score to 2-1. The goal gave Dexter energy heading into the fourth, but the Huskies were ready to give it everything they had in the final 15 minutes.
They did exactly that. Both teams continued to battle and generate chances, but neither could capitalize again. The Huskies’ defense stayed solid, successfully defending eight defensive corners throughout the game, while Dexter only faced two.
This 2-1 win was a true display of heart, hustle, and determination. The Huskies are proud of their effort and look forward to a fun team hike tomorrow before getting back on the field to prepare for next week’s game.
Let’s go Huskies!
