The Huskies traveled just twenty minutes down I-93 to face Tilton on a windy October afternoon. The gusts were relentless, but the Huskies brought their usual energy and focus. Despite realizing they had forgotten their cones and masks, the team stayed flexible, adjusting their warm-up routine without missing a beat. To make things even more interesting, the game time had been pushed back, meaning the Huskies arrived more than an hour early. Instead of letting that throw them off, they made the most of it with extra shots and a fun shooting drill they don’t usually have time for before games.
As the wind picked up and the air grew colder, the Huskies’ energy stayed high. Luna, their goalkeeper, even sprinted a full lap around the field to keep the momentum going. When the first whistle blew, the Huskies took off and immediately controlled the game. Their passing was sharp, communication strong, and defense relentless. They stepped to every ball, intercepted Tilton’s passes, and kept play in their attacking end.
The Huskies were not shy about shooting. Although their early shots were off target, they worked hard for rebounds and put pressure on Tilton’s defense. Tilton’s goalie stood tall in the first quarter, making a string of incredible saves to keep the Huskies off the scoreboard. Between quarters, the team regrouped and talked about closing the gap between the top of the circle and the goal to be ready for rebounds.
That adjustment paid off. Lanah intercepted a Tilton pass, pulled the goalie to the right, and sent a strong shot into the open left side of the cage for the Huskies’ first goal. At halftime, the team focused on continuing their great passing and defense while working to get more shots on net.
The second half played out much the same way, with the Huskies controlling possession and continuing to generate scoring chances. Ten minutes into the third quarter, with just five minutes left, Kelsey scored off a beautiful back pass to make it 2-0. In the fourth quarter, Lola added another goal off a rebound, and Lanah struck again after stealing the ball and beating the defenders to put away the Huskies’ fourth and final goal.
The Huskies did not let up. Almost every player got into the game, and those who did brought energy and focus in both familiar and new positions, continuing to create great opportunities on the field. Although the Huskies finished with an incredible 36 shots and felt they could have scored even more, they will take the win and focus on shooting on goal during their next practice.
It was a true team effort from start to finish, with excellent passing, communication, and defensive play all over the field. Luna never even had to touch the ball. The Huskies should be proud of their dominant performance.
Go Huskies!
