The Huskies battled against a very tough league opponent in Vermont Academy, but suffered their 2nd loss of the season by the score of 8-3. New Hampton pitching struggled out of the gate and let up 4 runs in the first inning and could not claw their way out of that early hole.
Phil Groeling saw his first pitching action as a Husky and gave up some untimely hits throughout the first 2 innings which resulted in a quick 8-1 Vermont lead. The Huskies battled all game and were able to settle in and compete over the next 5 innings. Junior, Jake Cabral came in for relief in the 4th inning and was able to shut down the VA hitters. Jake pitched 4 innings, gave up 0 runs on 4 hits while striking out 1 batter and walking only 1 batter.
Offensively, the Huskies were only able to score 3 runs on 5 total hits. Phil Groeling was the bright spot going 2 for 3 on the day. Ollie Quong also continues to swing a hot bat and has a 4 game hit streak going. Quong collected 1 hit on the day and drove in a run.
The Huskies look to rebound as they will play a home and home series against Brewster Academy on Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will be at home on Gnerre Field. Gametime is set for 4:30 pm.
