Huskies earn a thrilling 11-10 walk-off victory against Kimball Union

After trailing for the majority of the game, the Huskies clawed back and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning to earn the comeback walk-off victory.
The New Hampton Huskies hosted the Kimball Union Academy Wildcats on a beautiful spring day at Husky Nation.
The Huskies found themselves in a deep hole in the first inning after a rough start that saw New Hampton pitchers hit a KUA batter and walk three more which resulted in a 4-0 KUA lead. In the bottom half of the first inning, the Huskies were able to score 2 runs of their own to cut the lead in half on a 2-run homerun by Freshman, Phil Groeling - his first homerun as a Husky.
Trailing 5-2 entering the bottom of the 3rd inning, the Huskies were able to score 2 more runs to make the score 5-4. After allowing 4 runs in the top of the 6th inning, the Huskies found themselves trailing 10-4. After some patient at-bats and some timely hits, the Huskies were able to score 5 runs and cut the lead to 10-9 entering the final inning of the game. Senior pitcher Griffin Taylor was able to shut down the KUA offense in the top half of the inning, setting the table for a Husky comeback. With 2 outs and nobody on base, Senior George Kavanaugh drew a walk to get the tying run on base. Junior Ollie Quong followed with a basehit to left field, followed by a walk by Taylor. With bases loaded and 2 outs, trailing by one run, Freshman Phil Groeling, found himself up in a huge situation. With a 1-2 count, Phil was able to fight off a tough pitch and got a 2-run basehit to right field sealing a thrilling comeback walk-off 11-10 victory for the Huskies.
The Huskies fought and battled back all game and found a way to come out victorious in a great Lakes Region League game between 2 very good baseball teams. The win moves the Huskies to 1-1 on the season. Junior pitcher Keegan Hunt did a fantastic job coming in for relief in the 1st inning and keeping the game within reach.
Phil Groeling had a great day offensively. The freshman went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in an impressive 6 runs on the day.
The Huskies look to ride the momentum as they turn around and travel to KUA on Saturday for a 3:00 pm rematch.
