New Hampton closed out the Nickerson Showcase with a tough test against AAA opponent Nobles. The Huskies came out strong on the defensive end, forcing turnovers and converting in transition to take a 16–15 lead after one quarter. Momentum shifted in the second, however, as two New Hampton starters ran into foul trouble and a third suffered a game-ending injury. Despite the adversity, the Huskies stayed within striking distance, trailing just 27–24 at halftime.
Nobles caught fire from beyond the arc in the third quarter and continued to capitalize at the free-throw line, outscoring New Hampton 23–11 to build a 15-point advantage. Still, the Huskies refused to fold.
Elyse Ngenda led with poise and determination, scoring 11 of her game-high 24 points in the fourth quarter to spark a late comeback. With 1:30 remaining, Kailey Sullivan attacked the rim to cut the deficit to six. Moments later, Serenity Lancaster (16 pts./10 reb.) rebounded a missed free throw and converted a three-point play, pulling New Hampton within three at 55–52. Time ultimately worked against the Huskies, who were forced to foul in the final seconds.
While not the result New Hampton hoped for heading into the holiday break, the performance featured several bright spots and provided valuable lessons as the Huskies continue to grow.
