Huskies Prevail in Strong Defensive Effort Over Brewster

Tim Tracy
Defense traveled today for the Huskies, as they looked to continue rounding into shape, leading into next week's playoff stretch.

In the last meeting with Brewster back in early February, New Hampton gave up 72 points, 52 of them to Brewster's star guard duo, but managed to hold on to win. On this day, New Hampton set the tone early, with Bruce Fa and Jett Sizer playing tough man-to-man, limiting the same Brewster pair to only 28 points on the way to a 59-49 victory. At halftime, New Hampton had held a strong Brewster offense to just 19 points.

And while New Hampton's scoring was down on the day, as well, they found a way to generate good looks in transition, with Bruce Fa, Beau Millar, and Ryder Brainis providing the bulk of the scoring. Henry Timbrell and Charlie Kaikow provided solid minutes off the bench, and Jasper Bias-Derry had key rebounds to give the Huskies looks in transition.

New Hampton now enters the final week with one regular-season game to go before Wednesday's semifinal matchup. The Huskies will take on Hyde School tomorrow at 4:15 PM in Smith Gymnasium, a game with playoff implications.
