Huskies Show Growth in Exhibition Win Vs. Plymouth
Tim Tracy
The Varsity B Huskies returned home on Friday evening after a tough road loss to St. Mark's that exposed some flaws on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. With New Hampton in need of a "get right" game, the Huskies delivered from the opening tip.
New Hampton showed far more defensive intensity this time out, and that powered the offense through another night where three-pointers weren't always falling. Employing a pressure man-to-man defense, the Huskies repeatedly turned Plymouth over, leading to some quick run-outs and easy buckets.
Plymouth, however, was tough, and two three-pointers from the Bobcats kept the game close in the early portions of the contest. New Hampton was too tenacious, though, and after a Ryder Brainis and-one basket, New Hampton put together a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish.
On the boards, Jasper Bias-Derry had a strong game, and Jett Sizer provided tenacious defense. Beau Millar and Ryder Brainis paced the offense and controlled the ball, showing far more patience and craftiness than in the last game. Bruce Fa added toughness and a timely three-pointer to start the second half, and the Huskies rolled.
At the end of the game, New Hampton's reserves showed incredible toughness and togetherness, putting together a five-minute stretch with three-pointers by JJ Jones and Colin Flanders, and two buckets by Max Moore. New Hampton took the game convincingly, 76-38.
The Huskies now face a tough and experienced Winchendon Developmental team on Saturday afternoon at 3:30.
