Huskies Fall to Experienced St. Mark's Team

Tim Tracy
The Varsity B Huskies traveled to St. Mark's on Wednesday for a scrimmage against NEPSAC Class B opponent St. Mark's. Early on, the Huskies kept the game close on three consecutive three-pointers by Beau Millar, but the Lions were too big and too strong on the offensive side of the ball. What was a 21-17 game quickly turned into a 44-21 deficit at the break. Bruce Fa and Jasper Bias-Derry battled on the glass, and Ryder Brainis hit some tough shots from the mid-range, but New Hampton was kept off of the glass and out of the paint for most of the contest.

At the half, the score was reset and reserve players saw more action. JJ Jones, in particular, provided nice physicality off of the bench, and Jett Sizer hit two three-pointers. Still, St. Mark's held the Huskies to only 17 points in the second frame.

Overall, New Hampton learned a lot from the scrimmage. St. Mark's highlights the level of physicality, effort, and quickness that the Huskies will need to show for 36 minutes every night. While the team showed flashes of defensive effort, the overall competitiveness was not enough for an opponent of this caliber.

New Hampton returns home for their second and final exhibition vs. Plymouth Regional High School on Friday.
