The Huskies hosted Bridgton at home for the NEPSAC AAA quarterfinals, one week after their thrilling OT win over them.
We struggled to get off the bus as Bridgton rushed out to a 13-0 lead to start the game. New Hampton battled back to cut it to 6, but then struggled finding consistency. Bridgton got the lead back up to 14 two separate times in the first half, but we were able to chip the deficit down to 8 at half.
Again, in the second half, we struggled to find consistency early, going on 4 or 5-0 runs and then letting Bridgton go on their own runs. The defense had a break through in the final 12 minutes though, and held Bridgton scoreless for a 5 minute stretch, which allowed us to take the lead. In the final 3 minutes, Chad Cook took over, going on a 7-0 run of his own. Bridgton had a chance to tie or take the lead late with 7 seconds to go, but Trey Jones was able to get a critical stop against Bridgton's star big. Stetson Merritt made a free throw to put us up 3 and their half court heave came up short. New Hampton will move on to play Newman in the Semifinals!
The Huskies had two in double digits: Chad Cook (25 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal) and Stetson Merritt (22 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals).
