The Huskies traveled to Bridgton, Maine to try and earn the season sweep of Bridgton. We knew it was going to be an incredibly physical game in a great atmosphere.
We struggled to make shots early in the first half and the officials really let us play a physical style of basketball. Bridgton was definitely the more comfortable team early, hitting rhythm shots and putting pressure on the rim offensively. Heading into the half, we found ourselves down 8.
In the second half, we were able to create a few better looks, but struggled to make open shots and when we got to the line, we did not capitalize on our opportunities. Bridgton went on a mini-run, expanding their lead to 15 halfway through the second half. New Hampton then caught fire, making open shots and forcing turnovers and we found ourselves with the ball in a tie game with 4 seconds left to win it. We missed the shot and they got a full court heave that missed just short off the front rim.
In overtime, we were able to create good looks early and came up with timely stops. With 7 seconds left, we went to the line up 1. we split the free throws and Bridgton got the ball to half court to call a time out. From the side line out, Bridgton was able to get an open look for 3 to win the game, but missed it short. This was a huge win for us on the road, and proved to be the win that allowed us to host the quarterfinal game against them this Wednesday!
The Huskies had four in double digits: Stetson Merritt (25 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals), Chad Cook (21 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists, 1 steal), Jayden Harrington (18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals), and Wesley Waddles (11 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals).
