Huskies drop a heartbreaker

New Hampton was looking to sweep the season series versus South Kent after a close 2-point victory earlier in the year on the road.

In the first half, the Huskies really struggled from the perimeter, missing good looks and early opportunities at the rim. South Kent was able to run good offense late into the shot clock and took advantage of our defensive breakdowns, resulting in many good looks at the rim. We had some poor execution late in the half, leading a 6- point half time deficit.

In the second half, we allowed South Kent to go on a run early, putting us down 8-10 for a good stretch. But Stetson Merritt got hot, hitting 3, 3-pointers and giving a huge boost to the Huskies offense. We found ourselves up 3 as time was winding down. Late in the game, South Kent hit an and-1 3 and made the free throw to put them up 1 late. We had a few wasted possessions but were able to have the ball on the baseline with 1.9 seconds left down 3. Unfortunately, the shot to force overtime came up just short, and we dropped to 5-6 in league.

We had three in double digits: Chad Cook (25 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist), Stetson Merritt (24 points, 2 rebounds, 2 assists) and James Sanderson (12 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal).
