The Huskies traveled to St. Paul's School for the Lakes Region Championship with hopes of making waves in the NEPSAC standings and pulling off a statement upset. With so much at stake, both teams came out strong and physical, setting the tone early for a high-intensity battle. The first period featured end-to-end action, as each team traded quality scoring chances but struggled to find the back of the net. The Huskies generated several offensive surges that put St. Paul’s on their heels and controlled stretches of play in the attacking zone. Despite the pressure, it was St. Paul’s who broke through first, capitalizing on an opportunity to take a 1–0 lead into the first intermission. The second period mirrored the intensity of the first. The Huskies continued to push the pace and created numerous chances in search of the equalizer, but the St. Paul’s goaltender came up big — and had a bit of luck on her side — to keep the puck out of the net. Senior Lily Thomas ’26 provided one of the game’s most electrifying moments, blocking a point shot in the defensive zone before racing up ice on a breakaway. Her effort nearly shifted the momentum, but the St. Paul’s goalie stood tall to preserve the lead.
Shortly after, junior captain Emma MacPherson ’27 nearly sprung free on a breakaway of her own, but a strong defensive play by St. Paul’s kept her at bay. The sequence quickly turned the other direction, and St. Paul’s converted on their chance, doubling the lead to 2–0 heading into the third period. The final frame saw more of the same determined effort from both sides. The Huskies continued to compete hard and generate opportunities, but St. Paul’s pulled away late, adding two more goals to secure a 4–0 victory and claim the Lakes Region title.
Despite the result, the Huskies have plenty left to play for. As the #7 seed in the NEPSAC Small School Tournament, they now turn their focus to a road matchup at The Rivers School on March 4 at 5:30 p.m. The contest marks a rematch from earlier this season at the Dexter Tournament, where Rivers edged the Huskies 1–0. With another opportunity in front of them, the Huskies will look to regroup, respond, and earn a spot in the NEPSAC semifinals.
