Huskies Rally in OT to Keep Small School Playoff Hopes Alive

NEW HAMPTON, NH --

The Huskies returned home for their final regular-season home game in a Lakes Region showdown with neighboring Proctor Academy, knowing every point matters as postseason play approaches. New Hampton came out strong, putting Proctor on their heels early with aggressive forechecking and pace through the neutral zone. Despite controlling much of the play, the Huskies struggled to generate high-danger opportunities, as Proctor’s goaltender delivered an outstanding performance to keep the game scoreless. Playing on a Sunday after a long week, the Huskies didn’t quite have their usual jump, but they continued to push the tempo and win races against Proctor’s defense. Goaltender Elizabeth Vincent ’27 handled the limited chances she faced in the first period with composure, sending the teams into the intermission tied 0–0. Penalty trouble early in the second period proved costly. Proctor capitalized on a power play, scoring on a tipped shot through traffic to take a 1–0 lead. The goal seemed to spark the Huskies, who responded with renewed urgency. Freshman Avery Lucier ’29 found the equalizer on the power play, burying her opportunity to knot the game at 1–1. From there, the matchup turned into a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading chances but neither able to break through. The tight play continued throughout the third period, sending the game into overtime with playoff implications hanging in the balance. Just two minutes into OT, Senior Captain Addy Peel ’26 rose to the moment. On the power play, she ripped home the game-winner, sealing a 2–1 victory and keeping the Huskies’ Small School playoff hopes alive. The Huskies now close out the regular season on Wednesday, 2/25, on the road at Kimball Union, looking to solidify their #2 spot in the Lakes Region standings before heading into the Lakes Region semifinals on Friday, 2/27.
