The Huskies hit the road for their first away matchup of the season, traveling to Governor’s Academy for a highly anticipated small-school NEPSAC matchup. The game opened slowly for the Huskies, who initially had trouble matching the pace and physicality of a fast, chippy Govs squad. Goaltender Elizabeth “Eli” Vincent ’27 remained steady, turning away strong chances to keep Govs off the board early. However, a defensive-zone breakdown led to a clean backdoor one-timer, giving Governor’s a 1–0 lead. The Huskies elevated their effort as the period went on but struggled to capitalize on their chances. Govs clearly controlled the first, with Eli once again being the Huskies’ standout player.
The second period is when things began to shift. The Huskies dominated possession and zone time, finally finding their rhythm. Junior captain Emma Macpherson ’27 put the team on her back with a relentless effort on the penalty kill, overpowering the Govs defense and ripping home a shorthanded snipe to tie the game. The goal sparked momentum, but Govs’ goaltender answered with key saves to keep the score even. Eli continued her strong play at the other end, giving the Huskies every chance to take the lead, but neither team could break through before the buzzer.
The third period opened with Govs regaining the lead on a fluky redirect in front, making it 2–1 with 17:50 remaining. From that point on, the Huskies elevated their play, dominating possession and zone time as they pushed for the equalizer. They generated multiple high-quality chances, but the Govs goaltender stood tall and kept the Huskies off the board. Governor’s ultimately held on for the 2–1 win.
The Huskies return home on Friday, 12/12, for their first Lakes Region matchup of the season against Tilton School at 6pm, looking to get back in the win column.
