From introductory through International Baccalaureate
The Photography program at New Hampton School facilitates student learning, in both digital and film, from the beginning level through International Baccalaureate.
Coursework is both conceptual and technical, requiring students to apply their technical knowledge in a personally expressive nature. Emphasis in upper level courses is on alternative process such as Van Dyke Brown, cyanotype, liquid emulsions, hand coloring, and mixed media presentations. Intermediate and advanced level courses may also include work with digital images and the creation of large format negatives. The International Baccalaureate curriculum is for those who commit to a serious study of photography.
Photographic opportunities after school include working on the Belfry, the school yearbook, or advanced students working independently on their photography portfolios. Student photographs are frequently published in the school newspaper, as well as in the Belfry.
All art students participate in student exhibits and have opportunities to submit work for competitions, awards and scholarships. Two annual, juried exhibits we participate in are the Scholastic Art Awards and the Plymouth Friends of the Arts Annual Juried High School Art Show.
