Meet the Head of School

Welcome to New Hampton School

Joe Williams is New Hampton School's 23rd Head of School. Since arriving at New Hampton in the fall of 2016, Joe has initiated a comprehensive strategic planning process that is now guiding the School. Alongside the Strategic Plan, and in conjunction with the School's Bicentennial in 2021, Joe, with insight from all of the School's constituents, launched a Bicentennial Campaign focused on securing the future for the people and programs that make New Hampton School the exceptional place that it is today.

Joe Williams P'22

Put simply, New Hampton School has it all: IB Diploma Programme, individualized academic coaching, Apple Distinguished technology, engaged faculty who are good company, friendly students and much more. This is the way high school should be.
Known across campus for his welcoming and engaging demeanor, Joe recalls being first attracted to New Hampton School for the community's entrepreneurial spirit, inclusive nature, and emphasis on the well-being and full experience of each student. Together with his wife Eileen, the Williams' spend time getting to know the individuals on campus, hosting Senior Suppers, birthday gatherings, and drop-in events throughout the year that help them reflect on the student experience and support the close-knit feel of our school.

Life at New England Boarding Schools is no secret to Joe, having grown up as a faculty child at Lawrence Academy. His arrival at New Hampton School was preceded by a 19-year tenure at Kimball Union Academy where he served in multiple capacities that positioned him for his role today. A graduate of Bowdoin College, Joe lives on campus in Smith house with his wife Eileen and two dogs Bowdoin and Chowder, and is frequently visited by their children, Charlie, Cooper, Tucker, and Carter.
