World Dinner

Alicia Hammond & Cathy Creany
On Thursday, May 6th, Memorial Dining Hall was transformed to become the venue for “World Dinner,” the culmination of Gloria Kobb and Alicia Hammond’s Senior Leadership Project. This very special meal had an international flavor and was cooked up by our own students from all over the world.

In the kitchen, Director of Food Services Neal Shartar, along with Sheryl Anderson and Melody Martel of our Food Services staff, supervised and assisted as New Hampton School senior and junior girls prepared the international delicacies. Michelle You, Sunny Lee, Joo Hae Lee, Soh Hee Hwang, and Emily Han worked on a delectable Korean beef and noodle dish called BulGogi Beef and Chapch’ae. For those who like Japanese sushi, Evelyn Ozburn prepped California rolls. And for dessert, Gloria Cobb whipped up a sort of African donut called Manfazis Plantains, while Alicia Hammond, Jessy Soleyman, and Natasha Campbell baked a Jamaican sweet treat called Festivals. Also on the menu were Jamaican Jerk Chicken, Jamaican Jerk Tofu, Shrimp Fried Rice, Kim Chee Rice, and a spicy Japanese egg and rice dish called Omurice.

The dining hall was beautifully decorated for the event, and our international students added to the mood by dressing in their traditional native costumes. Diners were also treated to student performances of music and dance from all over the world. On hand for this special occasion were special guests, Soh Hee Hwang’s mother and brother from Korea. The student body really ate this event up…down to the last morsel!

Gloria and Alicia extend special thanks to their sponsors, Mr. Jacques Finlay, Mrs. Veronica Lima-DeAngelis, Ms. Helen Clary, and Mr. David Gagne as well as to Mr. Neal Shartar and the entire Food Services staff for their patience, support and enthusiasm.
