For the second game in a row, the Huskies struggled late after a very strong start. Inconsistency hurt them in the final period. New Hampton came out strong in the first, getting a number of good scoring opportunities before Cameron Fields put a wrist shot home onone of his many breakaway opportunities. The Huskies picked their play up another notch in the second with some of the fastest hockey they’ve played all season. Behind strong forechecking, solid defensive play in front of Theoren Aube, and all around good hockey, New Hampton dominated the play. Goals fromErik Caron and Alex Candage brought the lead to three before the Mavericks got a quick one off an in-zone faceoff. Entering the third with a 3-1 lead, the Huskies began to take penalties andwere worn down over the course of the period. The Mavericks took advantage of every opportunity, scoring three, two on the power play. Despite the upsetting finish, the Huskies learned tonight how strong they can be. They look forward to a rematch in early February.
