New Hampton Women’s Lacrosse bounced back after a tough loss earlier in the week with a hard-fought overtime win against St. Paul’s.
It was a back-and-forth battle throughout, with the Huskies holding the lead heading into the final quarter before St. Paul’s began to close the gap. In the final moments of regulation, New Hampton found themselves down by one. Fia Swormstedt ’27 drew an 8-meter opportunity and buried the shot to tie the game at 11–11, sending it into overtime.
With the golden goal rule in effect, the opening draw was crucial. Ireland Stark ’26 made a key adjustment on the circle, tracking down the ball and creating a turnover to secure possession for the Huskies. After setting up the offense and adjusting through the first look, Madi Hannon ’26 found Ella Zeman ’29, who finished the play to secure the win in the first minute of overtime.
This win was a direct result of hard work and smart, connected play. Swormstedt and Stark each finished with 3 goals and 3 assists, while Tova Yerardi ’26 added a goal and 3 assists. Hannon contributed 2 goals and 2 assists, including the game-winning assist in overtime, and Tricia Carr ’27 added a key goal that helped shift momentum.
Swormstedt controlled the draw circle with 5 possessions and made a strong impact defensively with 5 ground balls and 5 caused turnovers. The defensive unit worked cohesively, totaling 17 ground balls and capitalizing on St. Paul’s mistakes.
This was a much-needed momentum shift as the Huskies continue preparing for postseason play.
