Huskies Fall to St. Paul's in Lakes' Region Matchup

CONCORD, NH --

In a battle for first place in the Lakes Region standings, the Huskies squared off against St. Paul’s School with both teams entering the matchup undefeated in league play. With the stakes clear from the start, the intensity was evident from the opening puck drop. Both teams came out fast and physical, fighting for every inch of ice and matching each other stride for stride. A defensive-zone breakdown allowed St. Paul’s to capitalize early, taking a 1–0 lead. The Huskies responded quickly. Just four minutes later, freshman Emily Hachey ’29 took exception and delivered a momentum-shifting snipe, burying a beautiful shot to even the score at 1–1. The remainder of the period continued at a high pace, with chances on both ends, but neither team was able to find the back of the net again. The second period mirrored the first — fast, competitive, and evenly matched. Both sides generated quality opportunities, but it was Hachey ’29 once again who broke through, scoring in similar fashion to her first to give the Huskies a 2–1 edge. Goaltender Elizabeth Vincent ’27 stood tall between the pipes, making key saves to preserve the lead. Late in the period, however, St. Paul’s capitalized on a power-play opportunity to tie the game 2–2 just before the buzzer. The third period proved to be the difference. St. Paul’s came out strong and took advantage of continued defensive-zone mistakes, pulling away with three unanswered goals. Despite the setback, the Huskies continued to battle. Freshman Riley McKenna ’29 sparked hope with a goal to cut into the deficit and keep the comeback alive. Ultimately, St. Paul’s sealed the game with a final goal in the last minute, earning a 6–3 victory. While the result did not fall in the Huskies’ favor, there were strong takeaways from the first two periods, where they proved they can compete with the top teams in NEPSAC. Moving forward, the focus remains on putting together a complete 54-minute effort, as disciplined teams continue to capitalize on mistakes. The Huskies return home for Senior Night on 2/13 at 6:30 PM against Brewster, where they look to get back in the win column while honoring their seniors in front of the home crowd.
