New Hampton’s emphasis going into today’s contest with Phillips Exeter was offensive rebounding and dishing 20 or more assists. Serenity Lancaster got the Huskies on the board first with an o-board which led to an old-fashioned 3-point play, followed by 6 points from Ava Perry. Exeter battled early in the first quarter, but New Hampton’s stingy defense stifled their momentum. A late three-pointer by Elyse Ngenda pushed the Huskies to a 20-8 lead after one.
The Huskies continued to roll in the second quarter as Shannon O’Leary knocked down three field goals while controlling the offensive boards, helping the Huskies extend their lead.
The offensive balance was on full display in the third quarter, with eight of the nine available players finding the scoring column. Casey Stores, Kailey Sullivan, and Ngenda all connected from beyond the arc as the lead continued to grow.
Defense sealed the deal in the final frame. The Huskies held their hosts to single digits, with Saige DeJesus leading the effort with six steals and three deflections. Lancaster added two blocks, and Abby Schrader drew her first offensive charge of the season.
New Hampton executed its game plan well, finishing with 20 offensive rebounds and 20 assists. Lancaster finished with a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. O’Leary (16 pts), DeJesus (12pts), and Ngenda (11 pts.) also scored in double digits. Chloe Dix had a team-high five assists while Ngenda and Ava Perry added three apiece.
A complete team effort on both ends powered the Huskies from start to finish. New Hampton improves to 14-4 and will turn their attention to Saturday’s match-up with Tabor.
