Huskies Survive

New Hampton made the 4 hour trip down to Kent, Connecticut to take on the rival Cardinals. Heading into the game, we were 3-3 in AAA and 1-3 on the road.

The Huskies were able to get a little bit of a flow early offensively, getting good looks at the rim and creating great scoring chances. We were also able to apply pressure on South Kent defensively, forcing turnovers and tough shots. South Kent made a buzzer beater before the half making it a 6-point game at the break.

In the second, it was a back and forth with each team going on mini runs. The Huskies found themselves up 5 with 2:30 to go. We were able to make free throws late and let South Kent hang around. With 5.8 to go, South Kent missed the second free throw on purpose and got the rebound to tie the game. We inbounded the ball with 2.4 left to go and we were fouled with .3 left in the game. James Sanderson made both free throws and we escaped with a 66-64 league win, improving to 4-3 in AAA.

New Hampton had 3 people score double digit points: Edison Onwe (12 points, 3 rebounds and 2 steals), Stetson Merritt (12 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assists), and Wesley Waddles (11 points, 9 rebounds).
