New Hampton Varsity B returned to the friendly confines of Smith Gymnasium on Friday night for a game against Proctor Academy's JV team.
At the outset, the Huskies lacked some energy. Although they looked good in transition, their half-court shot selection was questionable, and Proctor evened the game at 9 apiece. A Bruce Fa dunk on a fast break ignited a run for New Hampton, and threes from Jett Sizer and Ryder Brainis pushed the lead. Beau Millar controlled tempo in the fast break, but the Huskies still struggled to avoid stagnant offensive sets, and a couple of Proctor three-pointers to end the half cut the lead to 34-20.
At halftime, the Huskies regrouped and stepped up their defensive effort. Switching from a 2-3 zone to a man-to-man look, New Hampton ran off a big run to push the lead to 25. Reserves entered, and it was back and forth until Proctor ended the game on a nice run to conclude the contest 69-55.
The Huskies take the win and move into a big home stretch, with three consecutive MAISAD games this week.
