Huskies Open MAISAD Play with Win Over Kents Hill

New Hampton Varsity B returned from Winter Break with a bang on Friday night, playing their best offensive game of the year when it mattered.

Kents Hill, a very strong opponent, started the game hot, with a quick three and a layup in transition to push a 5-0 lead. Bruce Fa had a timely putback basket to get New Hampton on the board, and a night of hot offenses was off to the races.

Early on, New Hampton struggled to get the ball to the rim, settling for some jump shots. As the game wore on, however, guards Beau Millar and Ryder Brainis were able to get to the middle of the Kents Hill defense and either score or pass for assists. In a tight, back-and-forth game, New Hampton hit the locker room at halftime with a 42-40 lead.

But the lead was not meant to be. Kents Hill scored another five in a row to open the second half, and New Hampton was again faced with an uphill climb. Once again, guard play and defense drew the Huskies back into the game. Jasper Bias-Derry and Bruce Fa collected timely rebounds, and after a Beau Millar steal followed by an and-one basket, New Hampton took back the lead.

With the score tied at 70, and just over 4 minutes on the clock, Beau Millar hit a 4-point play that altered the momentum in New Hampton's favor. After another New Hampton bucket, the lead was 7, but Kents Hill would fight until the end. A quick three-pointer drew it back to a 4-point game.

But New Hampton was not to be stopped on this night. Jett Sizer hit back-to-back threes from the right corner, and after Kents Hill's press gained them extra possessions, a Bruce Fa rebound and two foul shots sealed the contest. Overall, this was a high-level, high-paced game between two tough teams.

New Hampton moves to 1-0 in MAISAD play and 4-3 on the season. They will travel down to Massachusetts tomorrow to play Winchendon Developmental.
