Hot Hoosac Start Too Much to Overcome as Huskies Fall, 62-72

New Hampton hosted Hoosac today in its second AAA matchup in as many days, battling back from an early deficit before ultimately coming up short, 62–72.

Hoosac set the tone early, knocking down three triples in the opening minutes to build a 13–6 lead. New Hampton responded with grit on the glass, led by Serenity Lancaster, who pulled down four early rebounds and converted a putback to steady the Huskies. Elyse Ngenda sparked a late first-quarter surge by sinking a three, then finding Casey Stores on a backdoor cut to pull New Hampton within three (14-17) at the end of the period.

In the second quarter, Lancaster continued to attack the basket while Kailey Sullivan heated up from beyond the arc, trimming the deficit to one. A scoring drought, however, stalled the momentum and allowed Hoosac to take a 34–24 advantage into halftime. New Hampton shot just 28 percent from the floor in the opening half.

Looking to regroup, the Huskies opened the third quarter with a steal by Chloe Dix, but Hoosac answered with back-to-back threes from Moser to push the lead to 16. Abby Schrader stopped the run with a layup off a Lancaster assist, and Sullivan hit another three. Saige DeJesus drew her second charge of the weekend.

New Hampton closed the third period with renewed energy. Sullivan knocked down a runner, Shannon O’Leary converted two free throws, and Lancaster finished back-to-back baskets to bring the Huskies into the final quarter with momentum. That carryover showed in the fourth, as New Hampton nearly doubled its field goal percentage, but the early hole proved too deep.

Despite the loss, the Huskies matched Hoosac point-for-point in the second half (38–38) and were nearly perfect at the free-throw line, shooting 12-for-13. Lancaster led the way with 17 points, followed by Ngenda with 16 and Sullivan with 11. New Hampton looks forward to a rematch in New York in early February.
