New Hampton completed a season sweep of Dexter on the road in a hard-fought, back-and-forth battle between two AAA programs.
Chloe Dix opened the scoring for the Huskies, but Dexter responded with a 7–0 run jumping out to an early lead. New Hampton answered by crashing the boards, forcing turnovers, and getting Ava Perry the ball going backdoor. Perry scored on three straight layups to knot the game at 7–7. Dix then buried a momentum-swinging three to put the Huskies back in front. From there, the teams traded baskets throughout the remainder of the half, with neither side holding a lead larger than three points. Casey Stores and Saige DeJesus provided timely three-point shooting during the exchange to keep New Hampton close heading into the break.
Unforced turnovers to open the third quarter allowed Dexter to build a six-point cushion, but the Huskies again responded by locking in defensively and limiting the hosts to one shot. On the offensive end, New Hampton executed with patience and balance, as Elyse Ngenda, Abby Schrader, Serenity Lancaster, Perry, DeJesus, and Stores all made key contributions to fuel the comeback.
Trailing 53–52 to start the fourth quarter, New Hampton turned up the defensive pressure. Stores sparked the run with a deflection that led to a steal and breakaway layup to reclaim the lead. Ngenda continued her relentless work on the glass and aggressive drives to the rim, earning trips to the free-throw line and helping extend the advantage.
With under a minute to play, two critical defensive stops and a clutch free throw from DeJesus allowed the Huskies to close out a hard-earned 70-67 win against a talented Dexter squad.
Ngenda led all scorers with 22 points to go along with 11 rebounds. DeJesus finished with 12 points, four assists, four deflections, three steals, and three rebounds; while Perry added 11 points, three assists, and three rebounds.
With the victory, New Hampton improves to 8–1 on the season. The Huskies return home to host Hoosac on Saturday at 2 p.m.
