Huskies Win in Overtime Thriller at Holderness

The Huskies headed up 93 north for a rivalry game on a beautiful Friday afternoon after a successful Parents Weekend filled with classes, school meeting, and conferences. The team showed up with all their gear and high energy, ready for a fiery rematch after playing Holderness just last Saturday.

From the opening whistle, the Huskies came out strong and pressured well. They were excited to have Abby back on the back line and dominated the first seven minutes of play. When they lost the ball, they quickly intercepted or set strong block tackles, keeping Holderness from crossing the fifty-yard line.

About halfway through the first quarter, the Bulls found their rhythm. They brought a burst of energy they kept for the rest of the game, with strong hits and determined defensive play that made it difficult for the Huskies to find the back of the net. The Bulls were also solid on defensive corners, clearing the ball with low sticks and grit.

The Huskies worked to adjust to the slower turf, realizing that push passes were more effective than hard hits. Both teams created strong chances in the first half but went into halftime scoreless.

The second half brought new challenges. Some tough calls frustrated the Huskies, but they fought to keep their composure, communicate, and play their game. Ten minutes into the third quarter, Holderness converted on an offensive corner with a powerful shot from the top of the circle to take a 1–0 lead.

That goal fueled the Huskies. The final minutes of the third quarter were full of crisp passes, strong connections, and relentless effort. They entered the fourth quarter buzzing with energy and determination. With five minutes left in regulation, Cara scored off a rebound after a great ball toward goal from Kelsey, tying the game 1–1.

The final minutes were a battle. Both teams pushed hard, and Holderness called a timeout with two minutes left as the Huskies continued to press. The Huskies nearly scored in the final seconds but couldn’t quite convert, sending the game into overtime.

Seven-on-seven overtime brought excitement and intensity. Holderness started with possession, but the Huskies quickly took control and pushed up the field. After several back-and-forth possessions and near misses, the Huskies earned an offensive corner. The initial play broke down, but the Huskies stayed on the pads and kept the pressure on. Amid the scramble, the Bulls goalie fell on top of the ball, resulting in a penalty stroke for the Huskies.

Lanah stepped up to take the stroke with confidence as her teammates and the bench cheered her on. With calm precision, she sent a powerful shot past the Bulls goalie and into the back of the net to secure a 2–1 overtime victory.

This was the first time all season the Huskies had been down and come back to win, showing tremendous grit and determination. They should be proud of their composure, adjustments, and teamwork throughout the game.

As they head into a few days of rest and recovery, the Huskies are already looking forward to another competitive matchup on Wednesday against a strong Dexter team.

Way to work until the end, Huskies! Let’s go!
