In a thrilling championship game that will be remembered for years to come, the Huskies captured their first ever NEPSAC Class C title with a 2-1 victory over the King School. From the moment the team boarded the bus, the energy was electric. Fueled by excitement and determination to “bring home the hardware,” the Huskies embraced every moment of the day.
The locker room buzzed with anticipation, warmups were full of smiles and focus, and when the opening whistle blew, the Huskies were ready. They set the tone early with smart passing, sharp communication, and relentless pressure. King’s defense was strong, shutting down early offensive chances, but the Huskies refused to back down.
After regrouping at the end of the first quarter to adjust their offensive strategy, the Huskies broke through just over two minutes into the second. Off a well-earned offensive corner, Kelsey delivered a powerful shot from the top of the circle. Emma was right where she needed to be and tipped the ball brilliantly into the back of the net, putting the Huskies up 1-0.
The Huskies continued to control play until the final seconds of the half when King drew multiple corners. With time expired, King tied the game 1-1 off a direct shot from the top of the circle. It was a tough moment, but this team had been here before. They were not done.
The start of the third quarter brought adversity. The Huskies were flat, and King pushed. But with five minutes left in the quarter, something clicked. Energy surged back. Confidence returned. The team stepped up and regained control.
Going into the fourth quarter tied 1-1, the moment felt monumental. That’s when the Husky fans made their presence known. A “Let’s go Huskies” cheer rang out across the field, sparking goosebumps and even a few tears. The team knew they had everything they needed.
Just two minutes into the final quarter, the Huskies earned their second corner of the game. They ran the same play. A shot from Kelsey, a scramble, and then—magic. Lanah collected the rebound, drove it toward the left post, and Emma once again had her stick down low, tipping the ball into the net for her second goal of the game and a 2-1 lead.
From there, it was all grit. King continued to press, earning twelve offensive corners to the Huskies’ two, but the defense was unbelievable. Luna was outstanding with four clutch saves, and every Husky on the field played lock-down defense. The final minutes seemed to last forever, especially as King earned more corners, but the Huskies held strong until the final whistle.
When it blew, history was made.
The Huskies had done it. A 2-1 victory. The first NEPSAC field hockey championship in school history. A season to remember. A team to celebrate. Every player, whether they scored, defended, practiced, or cheered, helped make this championship dream real. And as we close out this unforgettable season, we do it with full hearts and pride in everything achieved.
For one last time this year, Let’s go Huskies! 🐾🥇🏆
