Huskies Finish the Regular Season with a 3-2 Win Over KUA

The Huskies closed out their regular season with an exciting 3-2 win over KUA on their home turf for Senior Game. The locker room was decorated and the team was full of energy. There may have been a few tears as the senior celebrations began, but they were happy tears as the Huskies celebrated their seniors surrounded by family, teammates, and lots of loud cheering.

With all of the seniors starting, including Ireland who has been out all season with a torn ACL and was able to start with the ball and make the first pass before coming off, there was so much to celebrate and smile about. The Huskies took the field eager to win and immediately took control. They stepped to the ball well, communicated, and maintained great spacing all over the field.

Just six minutes into the game, Emma caused a turnover that led to a break into the circle. With all-out hustle past the KUA defenders, she pulled the goalie and scored, putting the Huskies up 1-0 in the first. Although the Huskies let up a bit toward the end of the first quarter, they regrouped quickly and came out strong in the second. Their passing was sharp, their corners looked great, and they defended KUA’s corners with poise.

Just over a minute into the second quarter, Emma once again caused a turnover and showed her determination, pushing past defenders to score her second goal of the game and extend the Huskies’ lead to 2-0. The game remained fast-paced and competitive, with both teams showing hustle and heart.

At halftime, the Huskies emphasized using the right side of the field, swinging the ball, and creating space with sideline and inside-out passes. They also talked about continuing their strong communication and teamwork.

The third quarter brought more intensity. The Huskies stayed composed despite a few cards for physical play. With two and a half minutes left in the third, KUA made a strong run up the field. Luna made a great initial save, but KUA capitalized on the rebound, cutting the lead to 2-1.

Both teams continued to battle into the fourth quarter. Just a minute and a half in, KUA tied the game 2-2 after a defensive miscommunication. The atmosphere was tense but exciting, and both teams created strong chances. The Huskies had several opportunities but struggled to convert, as shots went wide or were cleared by KUA’s strong goalie.

After a KUA timeout, the Huskies came together and reminded each other that they had what it took to win. Their energy reignited, and with four minutes left on the clock, the Huskies pushed up the field with a beautiful passing sequence. Lily received the ball just outside the circle, hustled in, beat a defender, and took a powerful shot from the top of the circle that found the back of the net. The Huskies took a 3-2 lead and were determined to hold it.

The final minutes showed great composure and patience from the Huskies. They kept the ball in the offensive end, continued to press, and played smart hockey to close out the game. The Huskies finished strong with a well-deserved 3-2 win.

This victory capped off the regular season and secured the title of Lakes Region Champions. The Huskies now look ahead to NEPSAC playoffs next week, eager to get back on the field Monday and prepare for their next challenge.
Let’s go Huskies!
