Headmaster Jeff Beedy Resigns

Jason M. Pilalas ’58, chairman of the New Hampton School Board of Trustees, has announced that Jeff Beedy has resigned his position as headmaster.

“Jeff came to New Hampton at a very difficult time in the school’s history. In his twelve years of service, Jeff’s vision and leadership have transformed our school: We now embrace a distinctive and inspiring mission, one that New Hampton can build on for years to come. As we say goodbye to Jeff, we also say, with deep appreciation, ‘Thank you for your excellent work.’”

A search committee will begin interviewing consulting firms to help the school as it seeks a new head of school. New Hampton School is committed to finding the ideal new leader, one who shares the community’s enthusiasm for its mission and who can guide the developing community to further accomplishment. It is anticipated that candidates will be interviewed during the late fall and winter, with the hope that the new head will join the staff during the summer of 2005.

In the interim, Alan B. Crocker has accepted the position of acting headmaster. Currently in his tenth year as New Hampton’s assistant headmaster and college advisor, Mr. Crocker has built a 33-year career in independent schools: St. Mark’s School in Southborough, Massachusetts; Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania; Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and Cardigan Mountain Summer School in Canaan, New Hampshire. Besides teaching science and health, he has served in a wide range of administrative and staff roles, from dean of student affairs, director of athletics, and director of college advising to house head, yearbook advisor, and class dean. As a coach, he has led teams in basketball, football, soccer, hockey, and lacrosse. Mr. Crocker served New Hampton during the spring term as interim headmaster during Dr. Beedy’s leave of absence.

“At this point of transition, New Hampton School is poised to take new, definitive steps into the future,” Mr. Pilalas wrote in a letter to the school’s constituents. “We appreciate your continued support of New Hampton as we work alongside each other to further our mission, our steadily developing community, and our much-loved school.”
