Tough home opener game but Huskies were excited to play

New Hampton JVB soccer team had their first game of the season against Cardigan Mountain School. The team has been learning the game of soccer and has been practicing hard for this match up. Captains Leopold Brennecke, Hong Joon Lee and Zai Nishimura started for the Huskies, and all did a nice job leading their teammates. New Hampton was caught early in the game defending their zone and playing defense. Walker Italia started in net and made three saves. Ted Ecker played sweeper and had a very strong showing on the field. Cardigan Mountain got their first goal of the game on a corner kick. The Huskies were able to respond with a few opportunites on net by Davis Cronin. At half-time the Huskies were only down a goal. For most of the second half, the Huskies stayed in the game. Jonathan Seymour played goalie in the second half and had 5 saves. Hong Joon Lee was so close to scoring for the Huskies but Cardigan Mountain's goalie was able to make an amazing save on the shot. The final score ended 0-3. Suphawit Duangphumek, Blake Howard and Wenhao Liang played in their first soccer match and contributed positively to the team. Austin Caruso, Tate Perkins and Jared Mines showed great hustle and effort on the field. The Huskies get a few days to improve upon some of their skills before traveling to Holderness School this weekend.
