Huskies Gut Out Overtime Victory versus Brewster

New Hampton secured a league victory over Brewster on Wednesday night, coming from behind late in the game to earn a 82-72 victory in overtime. Behind a spirited home crowd, the Huskies jumped out of the gate early, and after eight minutes held a 17-8 lead. Brewster, however, took control for the rest of the half, building a 34-29 lead going into the break. The second half was a back and forth affair, with the Huskies opening the half on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 36. From there, the teams battled evenly, until a barrage of fast break baskets by the Bobcats pushed their lead to 55-47. The Huskies once again fought back to within two at 57-55, but Brewster once again extended their lead to 63-57 with two minutes left. After a Tory Miller '14 (Lee's Summit, MO) free throw and a Travis Jorgenson '13 (Columbia, MO) jumper, the Huskies pulled to 63-60. After securing a stop, Lincoln Davis '13 (Pittsburgh, PA) hit an off-balance runner to pull the Huskies to one. After Brewster converted a free throw on the other end, Davis was fouled with 6.5 seconds left, where he calmly knocked down two free throws, sending the game to overtime.

In the overtime period, the Huskies battled foul trouble, as two starters fouled out. However, the bench players stepped up huge, as Anthony Pate '13 (Toronto, Ontario) nailed two huge threes in the extra period to pace the Huskies. Additionally, the Huskies went 8-10 from the line in the extra session, thereby allowing their lead to hold. The Huskies were led by Jorgenson, who tallied 25 points, and Davis, who added 23, including an impressive 10-11 performance from the line. Tory Miller was also key, posting a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Noah Vonleh contributed 7 points and 16 rebounds before fouling out in overtime. The Huskies will practice tomorrow before playing on three consecutive days. The first game will be at Phillips Exeter at 5:30 on Friday, followed by a tilt against Notre Dame Prep in Boston on Saturday, and concluding with a battle against Huntington Prep on Sunday in Springfield, MA. That game, which tips at 5:00, will be televised on ESPN.
