The Varsity B Men's Basketball program relies on three principles as a guide and foundation. Better players, better teammates, and better people.
Better Players:
With an emphasis on skill and athletic development the Varsity B program strives to improve the individual performance of each player.
Better Teammates:
Players of the Varsity B program must communicate and collaborate with their teammates to increase the success of the team. This happens both on and off the court. Teammates are encouraged to help each other in all facets of life knowing that we win, and lose, as a team.
Better People:
The Varsity B program aims to develop strong citizens of the New Hampton School community. Varsity B players are expected to be leaders in the classroom and dorm.
New Hampton Varsity B traveled to Dublin School Saturday afternoon for their third game of the week. A stingy Dublin defense kept the score close all game. New Hampton did not have their best game of the year, with some uncharacteristic fouls and turnovers. Dublin took a six point lead into halftime, and in the second half, the lead was stretched to eight. The Huskies dug deep, however, and with 17 seconds left in a tie game, Kieran Sullivan hit a three-pointed from the right corner. After a furious final 16 seconds, New Hampton secured a rebound and the victory, going 3-0 on the week.
The New Hampton Varsity B team returned home Friday night after a tough loss to a good Brewster squad. Early, the Huskies struggled to contain Hyde's inside drives, and Hyde jumped out to a 24-7 lead. New Hampton responded, however, and Jackson Flanders led a charge to cut the lead to just 8 at halftime. The second half was a battle, and New Hampton played their best game of the year despite the loss. With two minutes remaining, the lead was just four. New Hampton had two key possessions, but a foul and a turnover doomed the comeback bid. Despite the loss, this game marked a definite moment of growth for the team as they move into the homestretch and try to make the playoffs.
The Varsity B team headed into their second matchup with Kent's Hill looking to improve on the result of the first contest. Early, New Hampton was able to stay in the game despite too many turnovers against the Kent's Hill press. Ultimately, Kent's Hill was just too big and too fast for New Hampton to match. Despite the loss, newcomer Ian Monteiro do Amaral turned in his best performance of the year with 9 points. Kieran Sullivan and Harry Jenkins both had 11. New Hampton now enters the last two weeks of the season with five games remaining.
The Huskies began the second leg of the 2024-25 campaign at Kent's Hill school on Friday evening. The game was decided in the early minutes, as Kent's Hill size and speed were simply too much for the Huskies. An early 10-2 lead ballooned to 20 in the first half, and New Hampton was not able to recover. There were, however, some moments of individual progress. Bruce Fa played well defensively, and the Huskies doubled their point output from 14 in the first half to 33 in the second. The Huskies also welcomed newcomer Ian Monteiro do Amaral from Brazil, who should add guard depth to the team. New Hampton returns home on Saturday looking to avenge a tough loss to a deep and fast Winchendon team.
