New Hampton School vs. Worcester Academy (E.G Watkins Tournament) 12/19/15 FINAL GAME
In the final game at the E.G Watkins Tournament, the Huskies would face Worcester Academy. Worcester Academy would come into this game with a record of 7-0-1. The Huskies would look to claim the Championship for a second time and enter the Holiday break with a record of 9-1-0.
Both the Huskies and Worcester would fight hard in the first period but both teams would end the period scoreless. Although the Huskies were unable to score that period, they were able to connect on the breakouts and create many offensive opportunities. In the second period, defenseman Cayla Barnes ’17 would score a beautiful goal for the Huskies. The rest of the period remained scoreless and the Huskies would enter the third period with a 1-0 lead. In the beginning of the final period, forward Elizabeth Cho ’16 would go bar-down and stun the Worcester goalie for a 2-0 Husky lead. For the remainder of the period, the Huskies would need to focus on defense. The Huskies took a few penalties in the third period and would need to stay out of the box and continue at even strength. On the Penalty Kill, forward Savannah Norcross ’17 would block three shots in a row off of her ankle and still be able to ice the puck keeping Worcester away from the Husky net. Dedication like that and amazing saves from Husky goalie Cierra San Roman ’17 would earn the Huskies a 2-0 win and the Championship trophy.
