Huskies Suffer a Blow

Matt Belmonte
The Huskies tee’d it up today against The Holderness School at Canterbury Woods. The foursomes faced blowing winds, sustained at 20 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. It was so windy that golf bags were tipping over greenside on the ninth hole!
It’s important to recognize the fact that this is the Huskies first Lakes Region league loss in the last 8 matches, dating back to the 2023 season. Up until today the Huskies have dominated in every league match they have played. To say I am proud of them for this incredible run, would be a major understatement. Resiliency is alive and kicking amongst this team and it will most likely show in our next match this Friday against The Tilton School at Lochmere CC.
Junior, Grady Moore earned the start in the number six spot for todays match. Despite Grady’s efforts in tough conditions, his opponent was able to dig a little deeper and win the match. Grady’s scorecard reflects that he did not go down without a fight.
The captains both put forth a valiant effort. Will and Mark dinged and donged together as a two player team and managed to win the best ball point. Unfortunately, their opponents were able to play well enough individually, to win one and tie one. Both captains scores show that they played well enough to win, scoring one stroke better than both their opponents. However, as we know in match play, your total score being lower than your opponents, does not guarantee a win in the match.

Starters Nate, Jack and Eli all suffered losses in their matches. They all played with grit and competitiveness, but came up just a little short. Spring golf in the White Mountains can bring tough and unfavorable conditions. Today was a reflection of this.
