Huskies played St. Paul's tough but couldn't hold onto the lead late in the game.
New Hampton hosted St. Paul's on Saturday in a rematch of last season's Lakes Region Championship. In a great high school baseball game, the Huskies fell short and lost 9-7. The Huskies jumped out to a 3-1 lead early in the game and then extended the lead to 6-3 going into the 6th inning. Unfortunately, the Huskies let up 6 runs in the 6th and 7th innings and their rally in the bottom of the 7th inning came up short.
Senior Kieran McNamara started pitching for New Hampton and threw 4 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on only 1 hit while striking out 3 St. Paul's batters. Dom Petkus came in for relief and pitched 1 inning allowing 4 hits and 3 earned runs. Finn Glidden came in to close out the game and allowed 3 earned runs on 2 hits.
Offensively, the Huskies came out swinging and ultimately outhit their opponents 11-7 on the day. The offense was led by sophomore Griffin Taylor who collected 3 hits on the day, two of which were doubles. Jackson Flanders, Hayden Weeks, and Kieran McNamara each had 2 hits on the day.
The Huskies fall to 3-1 on the season and look to rebound this week with league games against Proctor and Holderness.
