Huskies Win Season Opener

New Hampton opened the regular season at home against a strong Vermont Academy side on Kennedy Field.

Emily Hobausz '24 opened the scoring when her run into the box from the right hand side was rewarded by a pinpoint Kaelin Fitzpatrick '24 cross that put the Huskies up 1-0 early in the first half.

New Hampton's second goal was a full field team effort as Mack Hibbert '25 and Heidi Smith '26 combined to dispossess Vermont's attacker on the Huskies defensive endline before Smith found Hobausz in the midfield with the outlet pass. Hobausz then played Gianna Young '27 down the line who cut inside of her defender before racing towards goal to score on her debut for the Huskies.

The Huskies would get another debut goal from Ava Perry '27 in the 26th minute after she slotted home the rebound in front of net off of a Fitzpatrick shot that came from a Hobausz through ball from the midfield.

New Hampton would allow Vermont Academy on the board in the final minutes before regrouping at halftime. The Huskies would come out of the half with a renewed defensive focus that allowed them to hold the score for much of the second half, before a Trinity Walsh '25 free kick in the 73rd minute would be tracked down by Hobausz who then played Fitzpatrick in for New Hampton's final goal of the night.

The defensive rotation of Walsh, Smith, Elyse Ngenda '26, Ingrid Bjornas '24, Ava Millerick '24, Fia Swormstedt '26, Aniyaha Perez '25, and Mack Hibbert '25 would help seal the win for the Huskies in front of Izzy Prentiss '24 (9 saves).
