Huskies Kick Off Season at Proctor Academy
The Huskies hit the road on Saturday afternoon for what turned out to be a great day of play against several of our Lakes Region competitors. Thank you to our host, Proctor Academy, for putting on a great event once again!
After a week of practices cut short by heat advisories and inclement weather, the Huskies were eager to get out and play. Playing two small field games to start the day, New Hampton got a feel for what it was like to be back out there, making connections with returners and showing some of our new players the ropes. Coming up scoreless against our first opponent, KUA, the Huskies were rewarded in their second game against Tilton. Opening the scoring on the day, newcomer Lily Thomas '27 got her head up for an easy pass to and tip in by Reagan Comora '25. In her first few days in the cage, Luna McCulloch '26 recorded two saves against Tilton.
Transferring over to two full field games against Proctor and Holderness, the Huskies were impressed by Proctor's early offensive advances and quick pace of play. However, the Huskies capitalized on their first rush up the field and got on the scoreboard with a composed shot by Kennedy Walker '25. However, not long after, Proctor caught New Hampton in a defensive breakdown and tied the score. Time expired ending the game at 1-1.
After a game off, the Huskies reset before ending the day on a higher note. After going down 0-1 to Holderness early on a defensive corner, they were determined to return with a few goals of their own. Playing with grit in the offensive circle, the Huskies collected rebounds and put three up on the scoreboard before the buzzer sounded. Working well together, Walker '25, Comora '25, and Julia Loughlin '24 were relentless. Loughlin tallied the first two goals and Comora with the game solidifying third.
All in all, a great day to be a Husky. New Hampton will travel down to Middlesex School on Friday for their first official game of the season!
