Husky comeback falls short as they battle back from a 20 point deficit in a Saturday night shootout with Pingree.
New Hampton welcomed Evergreen League foe Pingree School to Kennedy Fields for a much anticipated game that had significant post-season implications. The Highlanders came into the game with only one loss while the Huskies had two. The game started off with a promising New Hampton drive ending with a Highlander interception return for a touchdown. Pingree would score again at the beginning of the second quarter, with a short touchdown pass. Ky'Juon Butler would make the score 7- 13 with a short touchdown run a few minutes later. Both teams would score another touchdown in the second quarter to make the score 14 - 20. The Highlanders would swing the momentum back in their favor scoring with no time left on the clock to make it a 14 - 27 score going into the half.
New Hampton and Pingree would both score touchdowns in the third quarter, with Butler rushing for a 26-yard touchdown. The fourth quarter would go down as one of the most exciting in recent history as the Huskies fought to narrow the deficit. Offensive guard Thomas Evans would be the first to score in the quarter as he pounded the ball 8 yards into the endzone. Pingree would take the ensuing kickoff 95-yards to make the score 27 - 41. Sophmore running back Jack Hamill would score next for the Huskies with a 9-yard run with only minutes remaining in the game. Hamill would make a huge defensive play on the next drive to deny Pingree a huge third-down completion on the next drive to keep the Huskies chances alive. New Hampton would march the ball down the field for Butler to score his 3rd rushing touchdown of the game, and bringing New Hampton to within 2 points. The Huskies would attempt an onside kick that was recovered by Pingree at the 50 yardline. The Highlanders would march the ball down into the redzone, but the Husky defense would hold foring a field-goal attempt. Junior linebacker Cam Devlin exploded through the line to block the kick giving New Hampton the chance to win the game with less than 2-minutes left in the game. Senior quarterback Nick Baliey would lead the Huskies down to the Highlander 35 yard line. With two seconds remaining the Huskies would attempt a long field goal which would fall short of its mark as the final whistle sounded.
Ky'Juon Butler would lead the offensive effort for the Huskies rushing for 247 yards and three touchdowns on 33 caries. He would also add an 80-yard kick return to his stats. Jack Hamil would have his best game rushing for 115 yards and a touchdown. Cam Devlin and Thomas McNeal would lead New Hampton's defensive. The Huskies travel to Proctor for a night game Friday, November 1st.
