Stalemate in Concord

Sloppy game ends in tie
We traveled down to Concord to take on the St. Paul's Pelicans on a sunny afternoon. Several new faces earned starting spots and extended minutes with others out with sickness, injury, and yellow card accumulation.

Not much good-looking soccer was played on the day by either side and both teams had to adjust to a water-logged, grass field. St. Paul's made that adjustment more swiftly than us and packed on the pressure in the opening stages. We earned our way into the game by the half, but struggled to establish ourselves all afternoon.

The second-half brought more of the same and lacked any real flow. The breakthrough came for us 20 minutes into the half--a set piece was floated to the backpost where one of the Pelicans, under pressure from a Husky, headed the ball into his own net. We took the 1-0 lead against the run of play and it sparked us for a few minutes. However, the Pelicans' mounting pressure paid off when we could not clear our lines effectively and conceded a messy goal with 10 minutes left.

Our Huskies hung on to preserve the 1-1 tie against a solid Class A team; it was not the result we were hoping for prior to kick off, but as much as we deserved on the day.

We are fired up to face Brewster on Saturday afternoon in Wolfeboro and get back to winning ways!
