Huskies Fall to Wildcats
A late goal won the game for KUA in dramatic fashion
Despite the loss to Kimball Union, our players keep improving and our soccer continues to impress. This game unfolded like so many others this season except for the final twist at the end.
The game kicked off and saw an even game between two top teams develop over the course of 90 minutes. The Wildcats laid on the pressure and stretched the game out by sending tons of numbers forward on several occasions. Their pressure was rewarded with a goal about 20 minutes in; their striker wriggled free in the box and found space to turn before burying a shot.
Our resiliency has been a tremendous asset and core value this year and it showed immediately. All of our guys kept their heads up and fought hard. We earned our way back into the game quickly with a nicely finished goal resulting from a through-ball.
Right before half-time we nailed the crossbar with a wonderfully set up play. This opportunity was sprinkled into more KUA pressure and offensive prowess; we made it to the half-time at 1-1 and took the chance to re-organize and catch our breath.
We started out the second-half dynamically and incredibly threatening. The Huskies had three clear chances to ahead and two more half-chances, but failed to apply the finishing touch. We would come to rue those missed chances by the end of the game.
KUA had a player sent off with 20 minutes to go and we saw a clear path to victory, we controlled the play and dictated the pace. However, with two minutes left on the clock, the Wildcats stole the victory with a well-taken goal that snuck its way through our defense. In the waning moments of the game, we also had a player sent off.
This disappointing end to the game is less than we feel we deserved, but it was a tremendous performance from our team and we are excited to welcome KUA to campus in a couple weeks for a shot at redemption.
