New Hampton Defeats Saint Paul's in Tight Game

New Hampton traveled down 93 to take on Saint Paul’s Wednesday afternoon and defeated them 3 to 2. The Huskies worked hard all game long and bought into doing the little things, which were key to the victory. After the first period, Saint Paul’s was up 2 to 0, but the resilient Huskies weren’t phased and stormed back to tie the game. New Hampton scored their first goal of the game on the powerplay when Marek Pechr slid a pass cross crease to his brother, Daniel Pechr, who one timed it past the goaltender. Mason Kesselring also picked up an assist on the play. The Huskies tied the game a few moments later when Jun Cha found a loose puck around the crease and roofed a backhand shot top-shelf. Kaya Suner and Jimmy McCool picked up assists. The Huskies took the lead in the third period when Kaya Suner rifled a shot past the goaltender’s glove from the half wall. That goal proved to be the game winner as Husky goalie, Alex Bechard, held strong in the net. Andrew Sayles also saw time between the pipes and looked solid. This game marked the end of the regular season for New Hampton. The Huskies will travel to Tilton School on Friday for the first round of the Lakes Region playoffs.
