Huskies Win Thriller Over Hebron Academy

The New Hampton School Huskies defeated Hebron Academy on Friday afternoon in thrilling fashion, 3 to 2. The Huskies came out strong in the first period, getting pucks deep into the Hebron defensive zone, and establishing good puck possession. The line of Mason Kesselring, Marek Pechr, and Rhys Jones were all over Hebron’s defenseman, jumping on loose pucks and getting pucks to the net. Credit to Hebron’s goalie who was solid all game long. Late in the first period, Hebron jumped on the board putting in a rebound past goalie Andrew Sayles. The puck was loose in the slot and Hebron made no mistake about it. However, New Hampton kept the pressure up and stayed relentless. After an incredible offensive zone sequence, New Hampton got a shot through from the point. The puck was loose in the crease for a few seconds as both New Hampton and Hebron players were trying to find it. Eventually, Daniel Pechr caught sight of the puck, and jammed it past the Hebron goaltender to tie the game at one. Heading into the third the game remained tied, but Kesselring scored to give the Huskies the lead. Kesselring won the draw to himself by putting it through his opponents’ legs and letting go a quick wrist shot that beat the goalie five-hole. Hebron didn’t give up though and tied the game at two a few minutes later. With two minutes remaining in the third period, the Huskies scored the go-ahead goal, but it was disallowed due to goaltender interference. With the score tied 2 to 2, and time ticking off the clock, it looked as if New Hampton and Hebron would head to overtime. However, the Huskies had different plans. Marek Pechr hunted a loose puck down near the Huskies offensive zone blue line and chipped it down the half wall to Kesselring. Kesselring made a great individual play to take the puck to the net, and dished a one handed, backdoor pass to teammate, Jimmy McCool. McCool made no mistake about it, and one-timed Kesselring’s feed to score with one second remaining. Mason Kesselring and Marek Pechr each recorded two-point nights, respectively. Andrew Sayles was a brick wall in net, making key saves and keeping the Huskies in the game. The Huskies head to Holderness School tomorrow for a 4:30 p.m. game as they look for back to back wins.
