Huskies Earn First Shutout of the Season in Win at Holderness

Two first half goals lift New Hampton to victory.
Making their annual trip to the legendary Robert T. Low field, the Huskies faced a tough Holderness squad on their home turf. The teams played to a nearly even split of possession in the opening minutes. Holderness saw their best chance of the game in the 6th minute when a long ball into the box was allegedly handled by a Husky defender and a penalty kick was awarded. Junior keeper Connor Campbell-Diehl set himself for the shot and dove left as the shot flew towards the bottom corner, but it glanced wide and out of bounds. Momentum swung in the Huskies favor and they broke through in the 14th minute on a quick sequence of passes. The ball started with junior midfielder Ethan Northcott who played a pass up to senior forward Nate Lamprey whose deft pass into space put senior forward Devon Garrett in on goal. Garrett touched into the box and whipped a right-footed shot around the Bulls keeper and into the far corner.

New Hampton kept the pressure on through much of the half and saw several good scoring chances off set piece opportunities. A corner in the 32nd minute taken by senior midfielder Caleb Duggan was flicked on by Garrett at the near post for on-rushing junior back Will Wood whose diving header on the 6-yard line sent the ball zipping into the back of the net.

The Huskies defended well throughout the game to earn their first clean sheet of the season. The back line of Wolf, Wood, junior Thomas Prentice, and junior Juan Carlos Guerra held a tight line throughout the match, limiting the Bulls scoring chances. Campbell-Diehl finished the game with 8 saves.

New Hampton is away on September 21st at Vermont Academy.
