Wasps sting Huskies

The New Hampton Huskies took the rainy trip to Andover, NH today to play our first of two games against Lakes Region rival, Proctor Academy. While it seems that so many of our games this year have been rain soaked, the rain actually held off during our game and the cool air was great for lacrosse. It was a tight battle early as the Huskies struck first and with two quick goals the first quarter ended with the good guys up 2-1. Trading goals it became a back and forth affair but Ian '20 played lights out in the crease and made some incredible saves to keep us in the game. He stood tall in net making saves with his stick, his leg, his foot, and anything else to keep the ball out of the net. The final score does not do justice to the effrot he put in and the skill he showed in net today. ANother stellar showing today came from James '20 who was all over the field contirbuting on defense, in the midfield, and later playing attack.
The game got physical as Proctor played physically and we went into the half knotted up at 3 goals a-piece but with the man-advantage thanks to a Proctor penalty. Coming out of the break, motivated and regrouped, we possessed the ball and ran our clear. Usually when our transiiton game is on, we've won games. However, that was not the case today. A vicious hit up high to one of our players gave us the advantage for three minutes but removed him from the game. This threw off our rotation and contributed to tired legs and inexperienced players playing crucial minutes. Despite being able to get another marker during the advantage, it wouldn't be enough today. Proctor never let up the pressure and scored to tie it and then had three more unanswered goals to seal the win.
While a challenging day, it was a good showing by the Huskies. Besides Ian's excellent play, there were several other great individual efforts. Jack '21 transitioned his game from being largely defensive and stepped up on offense when his contributions were needed most. Pablo '19 conitnued to show imporvemet as he learns the sport. Matt '19 worked hard at the face-off dot and continued to show goowth in his draw ability. As mentioned, James '20 was a team player jumping in all over the field and staying out of the penalty box. His efforts helped tremendously.
We regroup to prepare for a rematch with Cardigan on Monday.
