Big Win for the Huskies!

Kim Duncan
JV Women’s Lacrosse clinched a 10-6 win over Brewster on Wednesday. Effort and intensity from each player made this possible. Huskies went up early in the first half, with goals from Amelia Monahan and Coco Harriman in the first two minutes of the game. Although Brewster countered to tie, our defensive unit anchored by Carla Wuerth in the goal held them to 4 goals in the first half. 2 additional goals from Harriman, and a defensive deflection that led to a goal, put us up 5-4 at the half.

During the second half, success on the draw opened up lots of scoring opportunities. Huskies snagged possession on each draw and connected well to settle the ball in the offensive end of the field. Sophomore Taylor Healey found the back of the net 4 times in 8 minutes and Harriman tallied one more goal with 3 minutes remaining to put us ahead 10-6. What a decisive win for the Huskies!!

Gaining possession on ground balls was critical to today’s win—and 11 players tallied at least one ground ball, with Aleesa Borghi and Monahan each scooping up 4. Borghi’s speed provided valuable coverage on defensive transition and also enabled us to safely carry the ball out of defensive end. Defenders Claudia Verona-Martinez Panisello, Jade Clavier and Jin Na used strong defensive positioning to slow down Brewster’s fast break—ultimately forcing our opponent to take poor shots or turn over the ball.

With our Saturday game vs. Gould cancelled, we’ll have plenty of time to prepare for our game vs. St. Paul’s School next Wednesday on Kennedy field.
