Women's Varsity Hockey Defeats Kent School to Win First-Ever NEPSAC D1 Championship Title

In an impressive display of athleticism, teamwork and talent, the Lady Huskies played their way to a Championship title winning 3 consecutive games to end the season.
In an impressive display of athleticism, teamwork and talent, the Lady Huskies played their way to a Championship title winning 3 consecutive games to end the season.
 
In the first game of the play-offs, the quarterfinal round, the Huskies defeated #5 seeded St. Paul's School in overtime with a 2-1 victory. Their semi-final game was against #1 seeded Loomis Chaffee which New Hampton School won with a closing score of 3-2.
 
In the championship game, the Lady Huskies faced off against #2 seeded Kent School at Phillips Andover on Sunday afternoon. Defenseman Lauren DeBlois fired a wrist shot with just 28 seconds left in regulation to break a 1-1 tie. McKenzie Haberl followed with an empty-net goal with seconds left in the game, leading the Lady Huskies to their first-ever Division 1 Title.
 
"You never think it could happen that quickly," said New Hampton Coach Craig Churchill. Coach Churchill was sure to recognize all the dedicated athletes he has had over the years. "We've built the program to where it is today."
 
Following the game, defenseman Cayla Barnes was awarded NEPSAC player of the year, and nominated to the D1 All-NEPSAC First Team as one of 4 defenseman. New Hampton athlete Savannah Norcross also received an honorable mention.
 
The Lady Huskies finished the season at 30-3-1.
