The varsity golf team’s record does not accurately reflect just how well the Huskies are playing. Both coach’s have seen a incredible drop in scores from virtually every player on the team. Scores that were in the high 40’s and low 50’s in the beginning of the season, are now being recorded in the high 30’s, low 40’s and mid 40’s. We’ve been playing a lot of golf, and it’s showing in the Huskies scores.
IB exams are in full swing, so there was a lot of movement in the Husky lineup. Teeing off in the one and two spots were Jack and Eli.
Jack continues to turn in solid rounds of golf. After playing a practice round with him, we can see his game is ready burst open for the good. He’s hitting the ball a ton off the tee, and draining putts from everywhere. Once he dials in those approach shots, watch out, he’ll be lights out every time he tees it up. Jack fired a 5 over, 41 to fall one shy of his opponent.
Eli has been playing some unbelievably good golf. He fired off an incredible round of 1 over par,37. Eight pars and one bogey. That is a true testament to how patient Eli is when he’s playing. He plays the hole, he doesn’t let the let the hole, or the course, play him. He’s plays the game the absolute right way, professionally and controlled. It’s a pleasure to watch him work his way around a golf course. Eli earned both points that were won in the team match.
The second pairing featured Colin and Grady.
Colin continues to impress the coach’s and his teammates. He is playing some dynamite golf. His game has improved an incredible amount from last season, and even more so, this season. Colin knows his swing, he knows his strengths and he knows he’s capable of going low. He’s been proving it with every scorecard turned in. He is about to have some serious breakout rounds and we cannot wait to see them. Colin fired another well played round of nine holes, shooting a 5 over 41.
Gradys game is quickly coming back into form. 44 seems to be his number this week. He’s been firing those the past couple rounds. He is also ready to start shooting in the low 40’s, or lower. He’s got the game, he’s just trying to click it all together. Hes on the cusp. Gradys opponent brought a buzz saw with him, and turned it on from the very start of the match. The Proctor Hornet carded a 38, and closed the match out early.
Sean saw some more action this week and we’re glad he did. His game is rapidly improving. Everytime he takes the tee, he’s taking it with confidence. Sean is extremely receptive to tips and shot selection advice from the coach’s and his teammates, and its showing in his scores. Carding a 42, Sean unfortunately took the loss in the match. He was down 2 after 2 but settled in to his game, and fought it back to even on the seventh. He lost the eighth and needed to win the ninth to halve the match. He held in there till the very end. That’s all we ask the players to do. Stay in it the whole way through.
Ray made another appearance in a match. The more he plays, the more his game takes shape. Hes starting to get back in to the rhythm of a golf swing, not so much a hockey swing and its showing in his scores as well. Ray shot 43 but fell victim to a hornet sting from his opponent.
